What is EcoVadis?

EcoVadis is a platform that evaluates Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) performance. It assesses companies’ practices across four key areas:

  • Environment
  • Social & Human Rights
  • Business Ethics
  • Sustainable Procurement

Companies receive a score out of 100, and based on their performance, they may be awarded a medal (Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze). The goal is to help businesses evaluate and improve their sustainability practices while promoting transparency with partners and stakeholders.

Certifications and UN Global Compact Membership

It is highly recommended to have recognized certifications (related to your business activities or building management) and to be a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact. This strengthens the credibility of your CSR approach and helps optimize your EcoVadis score.

4 sections of EcoVadis and sample questions

The EcoVadis assessment is based on four main pillars:

Environment
Sample questions include:

  • What environmental policies do you have in place?
  • What actions are implemented to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions?
  • What actions are in place for waste management?
  • Total gross GHG emissions for Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3?

Social & Human Rights
Sample questions include:

  • What policies related to social issues and human rights have been implemented?
  • What actions are in place regarding working conditions?
  • What actions are implemented for career management and training?
  • Average number of training hours per employee?
  • Percentage of women employed across the organization?

Business Ethics
Sample questions include:

  • Has your company implemented business ethics policies?
  • What actions are in place to prevent corruption?
  • Percentage of employees trained in ethics?

Sustainable Procurement
Sample questions include:

  • What policies do you have related to sustainable procurement?
  • Do you audit your suppliers on environmental or social issues?
  • Percentage of suppliers who have signed the supplier code of conduct?

How to improve your EcoVadis score?

Here are 6 tips to improve your EcoVadis score:

  1. Implement clear and documented CSR policies for each pillar (environment, social, ethics, sustainable procurement).
  2. Provide tangible evidence since the evaluation is based on concrete actions and measurable results.
  3. Set up key performance indicators (KPIs) to track your progress (e.g., employee training rates, etc.).
  4. Raise awareness and train your teams on CSR-related topics.
  5. Improve sustainable procurement management by regularly evaluating your suppliers based on CSR criteria.
  6. Maintain a continuous improvement approach, setting progress goals year after year to maintain a strong score or aim for a higher medal.
